In the early fall of 2018 iOS 12 shipped with Apple’s new AR QuickLook feature. iPhone users all at once had the ability to view objects in AR natively from the Safari web browser. My colleagues at Hill had just launched a new e-commerce site for Party City.  With the Halloween shopping season approaching, I made sure our client was among the first online retailers to support this new format and while it was a relatively small initiative, it has provided us with some fascinating analytics regarding AR usage and purchasing behavior.

Using a 3D scanning technique called photogrammetry – a process which I’ve outlined in a recent blog post,  I created high-quality AR content for 15 products from Party Cities new line of Halloween animatronics. Below are a few examples that are view-able in Quicklook AR on iOS 12 in Safari.
